The Tin Man
The Tin Man, one of the most well known characters in the Wizard of Oz, appears as the second person Dorothy finds on her expedition to The Great and Powerful Oz. He is found on the side of the Yellow Brick Road, rusted and unable to speak or move. He was chopping wood when it started to rain and he rusted. Dorothy and the Scarecrow find him, and they use the oil can to help him move again. He tells them that he wished he had a heart, and joins them on their journey to Oz.

The Scarecrow
The Scarecrow, Dorothy's first friend from Oz, is found on her journey to the Wizard, tied to a post with his hay stuffing on the ground. Dorothy comes to his rescue and cuts him down, just to realize how clumsy he is as he falls all over the place and more stuffing falls out. She helps him get all of his hay back, and shoos away the crows. He tells her that he didn't have a brain, and how he wished he had a brain to scare away the crows. Dorothy says that he can join her on the way to the Wizard.
"I could while away the hours
conferrrin' with the flowers
consultin' with the rain
and my head I'd be scratchin'
while my thoughts were busy hatching
If only I had a brain."

The Cowardly Lion
Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow were walking on the Yellow Brick Road when it curved into a forest. Dorothy asked if they would encounter any animals; the Tin Man says that there are lions, and tigers, and bears. The Lion jumps out and tries to scare them. He roars at them, and then chases after Toto. Dorothy hits the Lion for almost biting Toto. He turns out to be a scaredy-cat, and also needs courage. Dorothy says he can go with them to the wizard.
